Event Rules and Judging

Bear Baying Events: Entry fee $10 per dog. All dogs will be scored by 3 judges on attentiveness, aggression, and speed of barks. All three judges’ scores will be compiled for a total score. Each dog bays for 30 seconds. Any female in heat will be disqualified.

Bear and Coon Treeing Contests: Entry fee $10 per dog. The bear and coon hides will be sprayed with appropriate training scent. The hide will be on ground level until the dog(s) is released. Then, the hide will be elevated and the dogs will be scored on their total number of barks during a 1 minute time period. Dogs must stay inside a 20-foot circle; any dog leaving the circle during the timed period will be disqualified. Any female in heat will be disqualified.

Youth Bench Show: No entry fee. Plott dogs only. Youth are encouraged to show their own dog; if this is not possible, a Plott will be provided. Pictures will be taken by NPHA personnel and displayed in the next edition of the NPHA and APA Yearbooks. All participants will receive a participation award.
